Complete 7-Formula Guide
1. Black Light
Classification: Lower Relative-Intensity Black
Intensity Reference: 30
Color Status: Black SMP Pigment
Professional Direction: Softer / Lighter Black
Black Light is the softest black intensity reference in the range and may be considered for:
- Softer visual transitions
- Gradual density building
- Selected frontal-hairline workflows
- Conservative intensity planning
The “30” designation does not mean 30% carbon black and does not define the correct implantation depth or machine setting.
2. Black Medium
Classification: Medium Relative-Intensity Black
Intensity Reference: 70
Color Status: Black SMP Pigment
Professional Direction: Balanced Medium Black
Black Medium sits between Black Light and Black Pro and may be useful for balanced density planning and progressive layering.
It should not be treated as a universal shade for every client or every treatment stage.
3. Black Pro
Classification: Full Relative-Intensity Black
Intensity Reference: 100
Color Status: Black SMP Pigment
Professional Direction: Stronger Black Starting Point
Black Pro is the strongest relative black reference in the YD SMP range.
It can be selected by trained artists who need a stronger black starting point or who plan to adjust intensity through a documented SMP workflow.
Confirmed Ingredients:
Distilled Water, Propylene Glycol, Hamamelis Virginiana Leaf Extract, CI 77266.
4. Black Mix
Classification: Neutral Black / Alternate Handling Formula
Color Status: Black SMP Pigment
Formula Characteristic: Contains Glycerin
Black Mix is a separate neutral-black formula with a different handling profile from Black Pro.
Its glycerin-containing formulation gives it a different viscosity and working feel, but should not be promoted as automatically slower, easier or safer for beginners.
Confirmed Ingredients:
Distilled Water, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Hamamelis Virginiana Leaf Extract, CI 77266.
Black Pro vs Black Mix
| Feature | Black Pro | Black Mix |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Full Relative-Intensity Black | Neutral Black |
| Glycerin | Not Listed | Included |
| Primary Difference | Stronger Black Reference | Different Viscosity / Handling |
| CI 77266 | Confirmed | Confirmed |
| Best Selection Method | Professional Intensity Planning | Professional Handling Preference |
Neither formula automatically determines healed darkness, implantation depth, retention or suitability for a specific client.
5. Orange Corrector
Classification: Professional Tone Modifier
Color Status: Warm Orange Corrector
Primary Function: Selected Cool / Blue / Gray SMP Assessment
Orange Corrector is intended for professional evaluation of fully healed SMP displaying an unwanted cool, blue or gray visual direction.
It is not a universal “blue SMP fixer.”
Before using it, trained artists should evaluate:
- Whether previous SMP is fully healed
- Existing dot size and density
- Visible blue / gray direction
- Migration
- Previous pigment history
- Scalp condition
- Whether pigment correction is appropriate at all
Orange Corrector does not guarantee full neutralization or permanent correction.
6. Brown Modifier
Classification: Professional Tone Modifier
Color Status: Warm Brown Modifier
Primary Function: Warmth / Softening Adjustment
Brown Modifier is used when a trained artist wants to introduce a softer or warmer visual direction into an SMP formula.
It should not automatically be selected simply because a client has brown hair.
Professional selection should also consider:
Existing SMP · Natural Hair Appearance · Scalp Characteristics · Intended Healed Direction.
7. Mix Dilution
Classification: Non-Color Dilution Formula
Color Status: Clear / No Visible Pigment Color
Primary Function: Controlled Intensity Adjustment
Mix Dilution is a clear formula designed to adjust the working intensity of compatible YD SMP pigments.
It is:
- Not a black pigment
- Not a brown pigment
- Not an orange corrector
- Not a remover
- Not aftercare
- Not a color by itself
There is no universal dilution ratio. Compatibility and ratios should be based on the exact selected formula and professional protocol.
Formula Classification Summary
| Formula | Category | Color / Function |
|---|---|---|
| Black Light | Black Pigment | Lower Relative Intensity |
| Black Medium | Black Pigment | Medium Relative Intensity |
| Black Pro | Black Pigment | Full Relative Intensity |
| Black Mix | Black Pigment | Neutral Black / Glycerin Formula |
| Orange Corrector | Modifier | Warm Orange |
| Brown Modifier | Modifier | Warm Brown |
| Mix Dilution | Non-Color Formula | Clear Dilution |
Why Use a Multi-Formula SMP System?
A professional SMP result is not created simply by choosing the darkest black.
Artists may need different formulas depending on:
- Hairline softness
- Desired density
- Previous SMP
- Existing scalp appearance
- Session progression
- Intended healed intensity
- Tonal correction
- Professional pigment dilution
This is why the system separates black intensity, handling profile, tone modification and dilution into different options.
Recommended Professional Applications
The system may support trained SMP workflows such as:
- Hairline Reconstruction
- Soft Hairline Effects
- Density Enhancement
- Crown Density
- Shaved-Head Follicle Replication
- Progressive Density Building
- Selected Scar-Area SMP
- Previous SMP Tone Assessment
- Professional Intensity Adjustment
- Color Correction Planning
These pigments are cosmetic SMP products and do not create hair growth or treat hair-loss conditions.
How to Select the Right Formula
For a Softer Starting Direction
Consider Black Light.
For Balanced Intensity
Consider Black Medium.
For a Stronger Black Starting Point
Consider Black Pro.
For an Alternative Black Handling Profile
Consider Black Mix.
For Selected Fully Healed Blue / Gray SMP
Assess whether Orange Corrector is appropriate.
For Controlled Warmth
Consider Brown Modifier.
For Intensity Reduction
Use Mix Dilution only when compatibility and professional protocol support it.
The selected formula should always be based on the entire SMP treatment plan rather than bottle color alone.
Mixing & Adjustment Guidance
For professional consistency:
- Do not use one universal mixing ratio for every client.
- Use modifiers or dilution only when professionally indicated.
- Record formula names and batch numbers.
- Record exact ratios.
- Prepare mixtures in a clean single-use pigment cup.
- Never return dispensed pigment to the original bottle.
- Do not automatically mix with pigments from another brand.
- Review the fully healed result before increasing intensity or correcting again.
Storage & Handling
For proper product handling:
- Check bottle name, batch and expiration before use.
- Shake vigorously for 30 seconds before dispensing.
- Dispense into a clean single-use pigment cup.
- Keep the bottle tip away from contaminated surfaces.
- Close tightly after use.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Use within 12 months after opening.
- Do not use damaged, leaking or expired bottles.
Important Healed-Color Notice
No responsible SMP pigment description should promise that pigment will never turn blue, gray or green.
Healed color can be influenced by:
Formula selection · implantation · dot size · depth · previous pigment · technique · client characteristics · sun exposure · aftercare · time
The safest professional approach is conservative selection, documented formulas and evaluation of the fully healed result before additional density or correction.
Product Documentation
Formula- and batch-specific product documentation and testing information are available upon request.
